Power and Sail Squadron Midland

VHF Self-Study Program $100

Lately, we’re learning that in some cases, boaters want to obtain their Restricted Operator’s Certificate (Maritime) but are unable to match their free time with our planned classes. In response, your Midland squadron is happy to offer a self-study program for your convenience.

If you are interested in this offering, please pre-register for this program below, and send the application to me so we may order your ROC(M) kit for pick-up and payment prior to a suitable examination date for you (late May or early June).

Please take the time to study your course modules carefully:

practise the Distress, Urgency and Safety Calls

learn and understand the Phonetic Alphabet

study the world time zones

understand and be able to convert time of day to the 24-hour clock

become familiar with the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) (Learn more at ).

The Industry Canada exam (2 parts: written and an oral portion) tests you on each of these topics.

Your Registered Instructors and Examiners will be available for a short review session prior to the 2-part examination.

When registering, please identify that you are applying for the VHF Self-Study program.

Here’s our course sign-up sheet for you to complete and return via e-mail to:  Ken Lockhart, Training Officer at or register with Ken by telephone (705) 527-7768.
